Women to Watch
Women In Business, Science & Tech
A vibrant work culture that flows with creativity is our secret
In a sector historically dominated by men, we’re so proud to focus on the extraordinary and diverse women who are breaking the mould and rising to the top of the business, finance and tech worlds. From CFO’s to business empire founders, groundbreaking lawyers to startup trendsetters, this category showcases incredible stories about hard working, determined women who are shaping the future. We believe highlighting these wonderful success stories can only do good. According to the TrustRadius Women in Tech 2021 report,“The majority (72%) of women in tech are regularly outnumbered by men in business meetings by at least a 2:1 ratio. 26% of women report being outnumbered by 5:1 or more.” Often cutthroat and fast paced, it’s even more impressive what these women have achieved. Recent figures show that while there has been some progress made, women in the UK are still widely underrepresented in IT professional and leadership roles.
According to UCAS (Universities and Colleges Admissions Service) young girls and women taking STEM degrees nationally are similarly underrepresented. Whilst often feeling like the odds are already stacked against them, once experts in their field, women then have to face issues with the gender pay gap. Hope and shining examples of those who have come through it all to create positive change is what we really need to see. Many of the ladies featured here are also time and again, brilliant models for women supporting other women, a key principle we hold at Darling. We’re aiming to inspire readers to enter or progress in the business, tech and finance realms by providing examples of these rockstar women who have overcome huge odds and made their mark within these industries. Former CEO of IBM Ginni Rometty said, “Your value will be not what you know; it will be what you share.”
