Holy Cross Prep School in Kingston looks forward to welcoming three- and four-year-old girls to the family this autumn. The new Little Sparks pre-school will be opening its brand new facility on Tuesday 7th September.
It’s not the first time there has been a provision for little ones at Holy Cross Prep. Back in the 1980s, the school ran an onsite nursery for girls and boys for the best part of a decade. The nursery was based in the courtyard area in what is now one of the year 2 classrooms.
Maureen Shilston, one of the teachers at the helm, describes the old nursery as “lots of fun with a lovely atmosphere”.
“There was lots of playtime and complete freedom. We had our own beautiful ‘secret garden’, with lots of mini trips outside to enjoy nature. They were happy times and the children had a great start.”
Inspired by these values of curiosity and creativity, Holy Cross Prep’s new pre-school aims to provide the best possible start to education by igniting the spark of excitement.
The pre-school is part of the Holy Cross Prep community
The ‘little sparks’ will be very much a part of the larger Holy Cross community. With weekly lessons delivered by the school’s exceptional specialist teachers, the girls will have access to a dynamic, inspiring curriculum. There will also be regular visits to the main school – eight-acre grounds boasting sports pitches, a play village and adventure playground, as well as the much-loved woodland walk, minibeast hotel and mud kitchens, where the girls will learn practical forest skills.
Little Sparks has found its home in the old Lodge. The building has undergone a complete renovation over the past few months; the internal walls have been demolished and transformed into a fully functional space, including two classrooms, a quiet room, kitchen, toilets and staff area. There is also a brand-new outdoor play area, complete with its own Holy Cross sail and climbing frame apparatus – perfect for curious new learners to explore.
Holy Cross ignites a spark; the spark that will shape the life.
