Kensington Mums share their 10 top tips for a half term in lockdown

So we may have a week off home schooling, but that doesn’t mean a week off for most parents. So how to keep the children entertained for a week with nowhere to go, no one to see and not a lot to do?..eek. Here we go with the top tips for half term in lockdown.

1) Geocaching

For your little adventurers, you can search for cleverly hidden containers around the world using Geocaching® apps or GPS Geocaching is an outdoor recreational activity, in which participants use a Global Positioning System receiver or mobile device to hide and seek containers, called “geocaches” or “caches”, at specific locations marked by coordinates all over the world.

2) Cooking

Cooking at home with the kids is always a winner. You can also teach measurements and time along the way, and there are a lot of online cook along classes you can follow such as private chef Natasha Shamji

3) Scavenger hunts

Do you remember searching for things in the house when you were younger. This is a great form of entertainment and something the siblings can get competitive with. This is a great website to help you print off your escape room riddle or scavenger hunt Ministry of Riddles

4) Dance & Drama classes

Keep your children active and engaged with Stagecoach At Home with weekly classes adapted to work in an engaging online environment with lots of dance, song, drama and even more laughter and hilarity than ever – pantomimes, west end musicals and lots more! Stagecoach information is included here https://www.kensingtonmums.co.uk/january-half-term-scoop-2021/

5) Home Cinema

Why not make a movie day at home, choose a few suitable films, and print out tickets with popcorn and times and film titles on a board. That should kill a bit of time.

6) Science classes

There are some fantastic online science classes for children to follow such as Little House of Science

7) NASA

For the space enthusiast Nasa has a Mars landing live stream on Feb 18th and the National Space centre will have some great resources to follow

8) Get out in the parks

Parks are always a great way to get fresh air, family time and exercise, perhaps bring the bikes or scooters to make it a fun day out.

9) National Trust

The National trust has some great places to explore this half term such as great short walks for little legs https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/lists/walks-for-little-legs

10) Virtual Day Trips

Google arts and culture has teamed up with over 500 museums and Landmarks around the world to enjoy from the comfort of home. Some of these included are The Van Gogh Museum, Amsterdam, The Eiffel Tower, Paris, and Anne Frank house Amsterdam.

Whatever you find to do, let’s try and make the most of enjoying the world on pause, to spend time together and slow down. Also see the half term scoop on Kensington Mums website – with over 26 fun activities to do at home.
