THE ORIGINS OF MAR DE FRADES
The winery, founded in 1987, is located in the Salnés Valley, where Atlantic breezes meet granitic soils to produce Albariño grapes that result in fresh, flavourful wines with mineral and salty aromas. Today, the winery has 66 hectares of vineyards in some of the best plots in the Salnés Valley and Ribera del Ulla, which makes it one of the most important winegrowers in the area, as well as sourcing albariño grapes from more than 200 growers in the area.
Its portfolio is composed of different varieties: the iconic Mar de Frades Albariño 2021, Mar de Frades Godello 2020, Brut Nature, Finca Valiñas 2018 and Finca Monteveiga 2018. They can be found in Tesco and Harvey Nichols, as well as in restaurants such as Dakota Hotel, Rest El Norte, Sea Containers, Malmaison Hotels and Bravas Tapas.
THE WINEMAKER, PAULA FANDIÑO
Her great passion has always been the land and vine growing. Paula is the heart and soul of Mar de Frades. Her thirst for knowledge has led her to experiment with the Albariño grape, the emblematic variety of the D.O. Rías Baixas, its ageing on the lees and vinification in different materials. She has been recognised by Drink Business as one of the ten best winemakers in Spain. “Innovating is seeking the expression of the Terroir And of the Atlantic in order to manage to explain it to anyone who is looking for a modern, original glass of wine”.

IT’S ATLANTIC LIFESTYLE, A BRAND THAT CONNECTS WITH PEOPLE
The Atlantic is much more than Galicia, and much more than an ocean. The Atlantic inspiration is diverse, but all this diversity has in common a feeling that squeezes that space of spontaneity that many of us miss in our day to day. Drinking Mar de Frades wine is an experience, an invitation to the consumer to feel part of this Atlantic lifestyle in which to let themselves go.
ITS RELATIONSHIP WITH GASTRONOMY, CULTURE AND FASHION
Mar de Frades feels very connected to creative processes, to everything that requires skilled hands & minds for its creation: just like the world of fashion, jewellery, ceramics, and visual arts. Mar de Frades is constantly inspired by everything related to crafting desirable objects, much like the wine. This can be seen through the “Guía Azul”, a culinary guide that rounds up the best restaurants in Spain to taste and enjoy Mar de Frades, as well as its involvement in cinema, with its sponsorship of the San Sebastian Film Festival.
Additionally, Mar de Frades has long been involved in the world of fashion with its continuous support for emerging Spanish designers and its annual limited edition bottle, in which for the last 11 years, a prestigious Spanish designer has been selected to design the label.
