Anna Allington, founder of Oath Home, make beautiful and sustainable home furnishings. She works with companies that face huge quantities of unused end-of-project fabric. She provides an alternative solution to disposal or destruction from industries such as interior design, hotel refurbishment, film, and network production, fabric manufacturing, and even retail. Anna and her team create handmade pieces with this fabric. Oath Home donates its profits to the charity Step-by-Step.
Anna, why was this charity was chosen?
“Our first fabric donation was from a home refurbishment for foreign royalty. It made sense to use the offcuts from luxury houses to raise money for those who don’t even have a home”.
How it began
Oath Home was started after Anna was approached by a family member who was retiring after 30 years in the soft furnishing business. It all started with a storage space filled with part and full rolls of unused fabric that would have gone to landfill if no use could be found for it. She came up with the idea to make cushions and Christmas stockings from the luxurious, home furnishings fabric. The fabric was from the houses of foreign royalty. A decision was made to donate some of the profits to those who don’t even have a home.
The “Oath” in Oath home stands for Offcuts Assisting the Homeless. Word spread quite quickly about the new start-up. Soon the company was receiving donations from Network productions, costume departments, Hotels after refurbishments, film sets, fabric designers, interior designers, curtain makers, and even a huge online retail company.
This resulted in an expansion of the product range as the design team worked to ensure that as much fabric as possible could be used. The range now includes cushions, Christmas stockings, lavender pouches, farmers’ market tote bags, clothing (men’s, ladies’ and children’s), doorstops, throws, facemasks, napkins, table runners, children’s soft toys.
