When you arrive in leafy Wimbledon Village it’s hard to believe you are just 30 minutes from central London. Perched on the top of a hill, at the edge of a beautiful Common, it has the feel of a quintessential English village that could just as easily be in the heart of the Surrey countryside.

As well as the excellent fine food and wines available at the fabulous delis and specialist wine merchant, each Sunday the Farmers’ Market brings 15 to 20 stalls selling a selection of fresh and local produce and a range of ready to eat dishes. Nestled at the edge of the Village is another oasis of peace and tranquillity: Wimbledon Common. With its woods, ponds, wildlife and windmill it is the perfect choice for a gentle stroll, easy bike-ride or ramble with the dogs or kids. It’s also a popular place for horse-riding, as the Village is home to historic Wimbledon Village Stables, one of the oldest riding stables in England. The Common also has its very own golf course, one of three in the Village area. Other activities available locally include tennis, hockey, yoga, Pilates, dance classes and swimming.
For culture vultures, Wimbledon Village offers art galleries where you can browse and buy, two museums, historic Southside House and Cannizaro House and the Buddhapadipa Temple, which is the only traditional Thai temple built in Europe. Last but not least, each October, Wimbledon Village hosts Wimbledon BookFest, a not-to-be-missed literary festival which attracts thousands of visitors to its fabulous programme of events.
While the Village is a great destination to shop and be entertained, it is also a thriving commercial centre.
