Why would someone have a cosmetic dental treatment?

A beautiful smile makes a huge difference to your confidence. Gone are the days of the Hollywood smile with large stark white teeth; instead, simple cosmetic dental procedures can improve the appearance of imperfect teeth and enhance your natural smile. At Dental Rooms, we introduce to you the ABCs of a natural smile – Align, Brighten, Contour – and work with you to identify and recommend the best procedures for your unique requirements.

What are the types of cosmetic dental treatments that one can consider?
During an initial consultation, a Cosmetic Dentist will listen to you to understand your smile goals and you will be advised on the type of procedure(s) that will produce your desired result. There is a variety of cosmetic treatments that we offer:

Tooth discolouration & Stain Removal
Tooth discolouration can be caused by a number of factors, from basic staining through to trauma to the tooth. You can restore your smile to a bright and confident white by firstly scheduling a visit to the hygienist, who will get rid of superficial staining, plaque and tartar build up. Teeth Whitening and/or veneers would be your next steps.

Teeth Whitening
You can choose to have your teeth whitened at home or opt for in-chair whitening. For in-home whitening, we provide you with custom-made bleaching trays made to fit your teeth and which you wear overnight or for an hour daily. You can expect the least sensitivity problems and results in 2-4 weeks. In-chair whitening, on the other hand, involves reduced treatment time and single-visit convenience.

Composite Bonding
Composite bonding is a cosmetic technique that is used to improve the shape and colour of the teeth. It can also repair fractured teeth and close spaces between teeth resulting in a whiter, straighter and overall natural smile. It’s a straight-forward and fast procedure during which we layer composite resin material to disguise minor imperfections in the teeth; we then harden the bonding material with ultra-violet light and polish to a lustre. Bonding is pain-free with no injections or drilling involved, there is no damage to the teeth and it is carried out on one visit. Bonding is less expensive than other restorative procedures such as crowns and veneers. The teeth do not need to be cut and is therefore one of the most conservative ways of improving the smile.

Veneers
Veneers are the treatment you should consider if your teeth are discoloured, chipped, slightly crooked or very small and gapped. They look like natural teeth and require a minor procedure. Based on your needs, you can have just one veneer fitted or go for a ‘smile makeover’, which is a whole set of veneers to improve your smile naturally.

Crowns & Onlays
A crown or onlay is a type of dental restoration to fix teeth that have been broken, weakened by decay or containing a very large filling. Crowns can be used to anchor a bridge firmly in place and can also be applied to replace discoloured fillings, for a more appealing smile.

Bridges
A bridge is the procedure we recommend to replace a missing tooth or teeth. Although bridges are usually made of metal, if you need a bridge in your smile line then we advise to add porcelain to the base so that it looks more like real teeth.
