A guide to caring for your silk nightwear
Silk is a beautiful and luxurious fabric that needs to be treated with care during the laundering process. Here at Joanies we want to help you to ensure that you can enjoy your silk pyjamas for many years to come. For this to happen, it is important that you wash your garments with care.
Washing
Hand washing your Eye Mask 100% Mulberry Silk
Step 1: Turn your garments inside out, this will protect your pyjamas during the washing process.
Step 2: Add a small amount of delicate detergent to a wash basin or a clean bath tub. We recommend using Delicate Wash by the Laundress.
Step 3: Fully submerge your pyjamas in cool or body temperature water and gently swish the water with your hands. Do not rub the silk as this can snag the silk. Leave to soak for approximately 30 minutes.
Step 4: Gently run your pyjamas through cold water until they are no longer soapy. Do not wring your nightwear dry as this can damage the silk. Instead, gently press your garments against the edge of the basin to remove excess water. At this point you may notice colour in the water, please do not worry as this is completely normal. It is simply the yarn releasing colour, you will not notice any colour loss in your pyjamas.
Machine washing
Step 1: Turn your garments inside out, this will protect your pyjamas during the washing process.
Step 2: Place your nightwear inside a delicate laundry bag, this will protect your garments whilst in the washing machine. We recommend The Laundress mesh laundry bag.
Step 3: Wash on a delicate cycle with the temperature cold and the spin low. Use a delicate laundry detergent. We recommend using Delicate Wash by the Laundress.
Step 4: When the washing cycle has finished remove your nightwear from the machine immediately. This will prevent creasing.
Drying and finishing
Step 1: Lay your nightwear flat on a drying rack to dry.
Step 2: You can hang your garments to dry them, if you choose to do so it is important that you position your nightwear correctly on a hanger. This will prevent misshaping.
Step 3: Iron your pyjamas inside out on a delicate setting. In between washing we recommend using The Laundress delicate spray. This will help to keep your pyjamas fresh without washing them.
