In this print, Kate Winskill has reappropriated an image from a gossip magazine of the 1990s. The figures have been rendered anonymous yet more noticeable through the addition of the cats” heads. This piece is playful in subject matter and the colouring reminiscent of Miami Beach, but the subject matter gives some thought to the uniformity of look many of today’s “celebrities” are developing by all recreating for themselves a similar, over enhanced, plasticised look.
A lover of cats, clothes & collage, Kate Winskill conceived the Catwoman series which encompasses original and found vintage photography to create surreal and arresting images. Kate also often uses shots from fashion shoots of models Lily Bailey and Sarah Lamptey featuring Kate”s clothing collections 2016-2018, as well as Graffiti backgrounds from worldwide trips – pre-Covid!
