With personal stylist Emma Reed

Fun fact: Did you know that 20 years ago, google decided to create the image search option, because of a dress? That dress was the Versace Jungle dress worn to the Grammys in 2000 by Jennifer Lopez. It became the most searched for item ever and was the reason Google decided to develop the search by image option.

Spring forward to 2020 and J.L at 50 years old is the new face of the Spring / Summer 2020 Versace campaign, which features a reinterpretation of the famous jungle dress.

Nature will be a huge inspiration for prints for Spring / Summer 2020 and green will be a key colour.

Dresses continue to be a perfect statement staple. Bold prints and polka dots look fresh.

For an updated look pair dresses with trousers – not only is this look stylish, but also practical until it’s warm enough to bare legs, if, like me, you feel the cold!

If dresses paired with trousers is a look too far, accessorise dresses with cowboy boots or trainers for casual chic and switch to heels for a more sophisticated look.

A key vibe for spring / summer 2020 is the 70’s. Think retro Halston, 2-piece trouser suits, flared trousers and jeans, A-line denim skirts, logo t-shirts and blouses with huge billowy cuffs.

Get your 70’s vibe on and dig out those flares – I’ve still got mine from the last time this trend was en-point!  Add a statement heel like the ones seen here from Lucy Choi – which are surprisingly comfortable despite their stunning silhouette.

This is just a peek into some of the key new trends, because I actually think fashion trends are less relevant than ever before!  Apply my rules for buying and you can’t go wrong.

Only buy a new piece if it feels amazing, if you truly love it and it makes you feel confident, it fits, you know what you’ll style it with and are sure you will wear it over and over. Approach your style this way you will get more value per wear from your pieces, compared to buying into faddy trends.

With 50 year olds heading up fashion campaigns usually reserved for 20 some-things, there are no rules anymore.  Wear your clothes don’t let them wear you!
