RESTAURANT REVIEW: Darling sent Matilda and Matt to check out Coppa Club in Putney, West London.
One of life’s greatest pleasures is surely spending an evening eating delicious food and enjoying (a fair few) drinks in the company of the people we love, chatting about everything and nothing for hours on end. Having temporarily lost this privilege makes the whole experience of finding a new restaurant with a great atmosphere to spend such evenings that much more delightful.
I have been aware of Coppa Club for a couple of years now, having seen their famous “igloos” plastered all over Instagram during the confusing times of the Covid-restrictions. Coppa Club cleverly adapted to the ever changing rules and brought the indoors outdoors, creating a unique experience whereby diners could rent private outdoor pods, with heaters (known as igloos as they look like ones) at selected branches. Having heard great things, I was delighted to find out that they were opening a new branch locally to me in Putney, giving me the perfect excuse to try it out for myself.
The first thing I noticed on walking into the restaurant was the warm, homely atmosphere of the lounge area. It’s an area where you could spend all day in, reading books and drinking coffees or drinking Bloody Marys and playing board games on a Sunday. As a student myself, it also struck me as the perfect place to work for those days that the library just doesn’t appeal. The Putney branch also has a number of igloos, catering to groups of up to 8, perfect for intimate celebrations.
We were seated by the window, with a view of the Thames on one side and a view of the buzzing restaurant on the other. The menu boasts a range of modern European dishes, from lighter bites to heartier classics. We enjoyed some delicious Arancini balls and spicy garlic prawns on brioche to start. Both were delicious and recommended to us by our very helpful waiter. For the main course we both enjoyed pasta dishes, sampling the Crab Linguine and Ragu Pappardelle. Our food was accompanied by delicious, very reasonably priced wine. We finished with some delightful desserts, sharing the chocolate cake and sticky toffee pudding.
Overall, although the food and drinks were lovely, the real stand out stars of the evening were the staff. Atmosphere is created by people and is something that’s impossible to fake. The warm, friendly and familiar atmosphere of Coppa Club is quite a rare find in 2022 and a great credit to its staff.
Coppa Club have 10 locations in London and the South West. If you are looking for a place to spend a whole day, an evening or even just pop in to kill an hour, this one’s not one to miss!
