A new solo show to open by Lyndsay Russell in Hampton Wick.
The show will open on May 14th and run until the 19th of May 2022 at the new RuptureXIBIT Gallery, (part of Kate Howe Studios).
Address: 55 High St, Hampton Wick 12-6pm (Opening 6-10pm Sat 14th).
Lyndsay Russell will be mixing sculpture, flowing silks and wall art in her progressive exhibition. The elements of Fire, Earth, Air and Water are used cleverly and divided into four overlapping sections. The artist has created a very unique experience that takes the viewer on an immersive journey. The experience is enhanced by a secret soundtrack, which visitors play on their mobile phones whilst travelling on the circular journey round the gallery. The soundtrack is co-produced with PhD Theorist Barbara Mendes and makes the experience a very immersive and different way to view art.
RuptureXIBIT Gallery is situated a couple of minutes walk from Hampton Wick Station (25 mins from Waterloo). It’s a beautiful space, renowned for experimental and cutting edge art. The Opening Event of Elemental Circle is on Saturday 14th May, 6pm-10pm and open to the public – BOOK NOW , free to attend.
Since Russell’s popular last Solo Show WATER ALCHEMY November 2021 at Cass Art (featuring art made with the muddy water of the River Thames), she has spent time developing smaller Earth artworks. Also, after successfully exhibiting at the Saatchi Gallery, she has been exploring ways to ‘box’ her stunning free- flowing silks inside a Perspex frame with a silent fan and wires hidden inside.
Russell says: “It’s a real technical challenge, but I visualise at some point soon, a gallery space alive with gently billowing, framed, silks that clients can purchase and easily place on their walls”.
This new show revisits works yet to be shown, and reworks others, as well as 11 new pieces. She explains, “All, have been chosen to link carefully to each other, in a circle. Take the element of FIRE. It will be placed next in line to Water. So the first artwork is an image made in water on my boat. A volcanic looking water print… next, a broken bronze bouquet forged in fire… and then on to the art images on the wall… Fire-burnt watercolours depicting love, pain and hell”.
We are all just energy and one force
“What am I hoping to evoke? With the soundscape and the art, I want people to feel in touch with the ancient past and elemental powers. I feel that the pagan sense of beauty is lost by modern living. To realise we are all just energy… and we are all one force,” says Russell.
Russell has collaborated with Alex Long Yuan, a renowned Chinese artist in Shang Hi, on one of the water pieces, so overall this show promises to be very different, very enthralling. In fact, you could say, a circular Tour De Force…
