Alison Telfer from The Glasshouse Clinic offers advice on how to look after your skin whilst at home.
Alison, a qualified nurse, founded The Glasshouse Clinic in 2009 with the aim of providing Harley Street service but on a more personal and local basis. The Wimbledon clinic opened in April 2018 to meet the ever-increasing demand for the unique ‘boutique clinic’ experience, alongside the outstanding nurse-led treatments that The Glasshouse Clinic provides. Here Alison offers some advice on keeping your skin looking fresh and feeling great.
Being indoors may see you faltering a little on your skincare routine buts it’s really important to keep up your regular regime. This not only gives you an aspect of normality but importantly keeps your skin looking and feeling great. Here are my top tips and must have products:
Cleansing
It is incredibly important to keep up with a regular cleansing routine, especially as we find ourselves staring into the sweet cupboard or fridge. Foods with high amounts of sugar and high in saturated fats can contribute to increased breakouts. If you are finding more time to work out, remember always cleanse after your workout, as the excess sweating can cause further breakouts too. At the Glasshouse we recommend the Obagi CRx Cleansing gel, it is a gel cleanser that leaves your skin feeling fresh and clear.
Moisturise
Being in an environment that is constantly heated dehydrates our skin, I love either the Obagi Hydrate or Hydrate luxe, when my skin is feeling particularly tight, maybe once, twice or even three times a day.
Treat
One of the most important products I swear by is my retinol product. Topical vitamin A based products called retinoids are the most used and most studied anti-aging compounds that are proven to reduce fine lines and wrinkles by increasing the production of collagen. They also stimulate the production of new blood vessels in the skin, which improves skin color. I use it every night and I love the ZO retinol.
Protect
When going out for your daily exercise remember to always apply your SPF. If you are working from home using a computer it is also important you apply your SPF 30-50, as this protects your skin from blue light and UVA, all of which contribute to pigmentation and speeds up the aging process.
At Home Treatment
Lastly as we aren’t able to go in for our usual treatments, such as facials or peels, try to include an at home treatment to help remove the dead cells that leave your skin looking dull and lacklustre. We wouldn’t want that when joining a work Zoom meeting! Our team have put together an at home Peel Kit that I like to use, once or twice a week, consisting of the ZO enzymatic peel to revitalise the skin followed by the ZO hydrating cream, which is really nourishing and a great post procedure aftercare product.
By following all these steps, you will maintain that healthy glow and when the lockdown period comes to an end, we look forward to seeing you back in the clinic, where we can continue your expert medical aesthetic bespoke treatment plans.
