High Clandon’s multi-gold-awarded English sparkling Cuvées are crafted from grapes grown in this Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty from a small hand manicured vineyard sited on the chalky downs.
Founded by Bruce and Sibylla Tindale in 2004. The couple have since devoted their energy to develop and produced some of the absolute best Englsig sparkling wine and remain deeply involved in every aspect of the vinyard’s daily opertions.
The three classic grape varietals (Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay) are used in the Classic Tradition of bottle fermented sparkling wines. Only aged-vintage Cuvées are produced and are released after at least 5 year’s ageing. This creates the elegant, full-bodied English sparkling wine for which High Clandon is renowned.
Since releasing its first Cuvée, The Queen’s Jubilee 2008 vintage in 2013, High Clandon has been awarded 10 coveted Golds and 6 Silver medals.
It is also a founder member of Vineyards of the Surrey Hills and a founder member of Sustainable Wines of Great Britain. www.Surreyhillsvineyards.co.uk
It has also won IWC Cellar Door of the Year competition twice running for the quality of its Tours and Hospitality as judged by VisitEngland judges*. Their Tour, Talk, Tasting* is much enjoyed and admired.
The Glass Barn which hosts the visitors and the indoor art exhibitions was opened by the Bamber Gascoigne and the Mayor of Guildford, Gordon Jackson in 2016.
High Clandon’s Art & Sculptures in the Vineyard is in its 9th year and has about 50 noted artists on its roster – mainly drawn from Surrey and surrounding counties. This year some 180 works are on show in the Glass Barn, Vineyard, Wildflower Meadows and Gardens. High Clandon also opens for the National Gardens Scheme on the middle Sunday of the summer art event. A £7 donation per person is requested at the entrance for Cherry Trees charity and 10% of art sales go to Cherry Trees. The vineyard does not take a commission unlike many venues, meaning that the balance goes to the artists. A win-win all round.
