At Soho Hotel, leading health experts spotlight how science-backed, multi-targeted nutrition is redefining modern wellness by prioritising balance over perfection

The traditional meaning of wellness that once was equivalent to eating healthy, exercising daily and getting proper sleep has evolved into something deeper in modern times.
At a recent expert panel discussion, discussions on exploring the future of nutrition, lifestyle medicines, and the trend of plant-based support were explored at great length. The panel showed that the pursuit of wellness isn’t about perfection, but it’s more about balance.
The panel hosted by Evera Nutrition consisted of GP and broadcaster Dr Hilary Jones, public health nutritionist Dr Emma Derbyshire, clinical pharmacist Mike Wakeman, and GP and skin-health expert Dr Nisa Aslam, who shared their expert views on the changing health needs in recent times and the rising popularity of science-backed natural formulations that are shaping and influencing modern wellbeing.

In his introductory note, Dr Hilary Jones said: “Wellness is a multifaceted concept, encompassing physical, mental, and emotional health. Pursuit of wellness is not perfection, but balance. Most medical conditions are not the result of a single malfunction, but evolve from numerous small imbalances,” as he highlighted one of the biggest challenges faced by the UK, the passive relationship people have with their health, and the importance of balance in everyday life.
Dr Emma Derbyshire pointed out that obesity was one of the main causes of health problems in the UK with 36% of children in the UK being overweight or obese.
“People want alternatives that don’t just suppress symptoms but support the system they come from, and that’s where nutritional science is advancing quickly,” said Derbyshire as she explained that the focus on just the treatment shifts the focus from the root causes of inflammation, hormonal fluctuations and weight instability.

GLP-1 receptor agonists help to regulate blood sugar levels; hence modern dietary supplements combine GLP-1 with micronutrients, polyphenols, and adaptogens to help with weight management, appetite control, and energy metabolism.
Clinical Pharmacist Mike Wakeman added that this mulit-targetted approach also included ingredients that interacted with magnesium, B vitamins, polyphenols and plant compounds, all of these which help to improve metabolic efficiency, neurocheminal balance and mitochondrial function.
The Evera products according to Wakeman are designed for safe, long-term use, typically evaluated over 1-3 months, aligning with evidence from clinical studies rather than offering a quick fix. Ingredients like glucosamine and PEA target joint support, reducing inflammation, supporting collagen, and improving mobility, especially important for aging adults.

Dr Nisa Aslam focused on the role of skin being more than just for appearance, as it reflects internal well-being.
“Collagen is something the body recognises and uses; it doesn’t sit passively. It contributes to tissue rebuilding, which is why we’re seeing it integrated not just into beauty categories but into broader health support,” Aslam said, discussing the role of collagen, glycation, and oxidative stress in aging.
The panel also emphasised multicultural approaches, incorporating globally-sourced ingredients such as Ayurvedic adaptogens like ashwagandha, traditional chinese botanicals such as red dates and flower extracts and mediterranean diet principles.

This multi-layered strategy applies across every Evera products:
Deep Sleep: Melatonin regulation, GABA modulation, magnesium, saffron, L-theanine, and adaptogens.
Go Lean Plus: B vitamins, choline, PQQ, Siberian and Korean ginseng.
Joint Active: Glucosamine, PEA, Boswellia, curcumin, vitamin D, vitamin K2, and manganese.
Gut biotic: Probiotics, prebiotics, postbiotics, and flavonoid complexes.
These evidence-based formulations are designed to address multiple pathways simultaneously, helping users target several aspects of well-being at once.
