Welcome to Darling – online and print magazine

Hope you are enjoying our inspirational stories and interviews. Amazing women have always been the cornerstone of Darling. They make our communities tick and their stories, struggles, passions and extraordinary talent is what inspires our readers, whatever gender they are. We also bring you news and views on a wide range of topics. We cover health and wellness, fitness and beauty, home and leisure, children and education, business tips, services and special features about restaurants and even the chefs behind the amazing dishes. We are all so thrilled to be able to enjoy out-out again.

We can once again enjoy live events, entertainment, gatherings and proper knees-ups. Do check our What’s On listings of our best picks.

Have you discovered our Shop yet?

We have been growing a brand new side to Darling during 2021 – an online marketplace, selling beautiful products by ethical small independent businesses. And guess what? We launched with an all female line-up of brands and still have over 95% female vendors! We welcome male run businesses too, as long as their products and ethos fits what you, our readers and online shoppers want and expect of us.

What’s our story?

We have been on a journey of change from the start and have come a long way from when we first launched as a local print magazine in Wimbledon in 2009. We soon expanded into surrounding areas of Surrey, Kingston, Richmond and Teddington. We’ve now been online since December 2019. Our horizons have expanded and readership widened to cover all of the UK and we have readers abroad too.

We’d love to hear from you

Drop us an email and tell us what interests you? What do you want to read about and do you have any great stories you’d like to share? These can be either personal journeys, charity, community or business related?

I arrived from South Africa, via Mexico City nearly 20 years ago. On a friend’s recommendation, I started Darling Wimbledon  in 2009 and it continues to be a wonderful journey. My hope was to provide a platform for women to share their thoughts and aspirations while doing justice to the vibrant cultural and commercial life with which we are so richly blessed. Darling covers topics that affect or enhance the lives of women and their families and communities. We also share ‘socially useful’ information through our social pages and stories and create a buzz wherever we go. I love networking and connecting people together. I’ve always had a strong community ethos which has been recognised through winning awards at both the Merton Chamber Best Business Awards and the South African Chamber of Commerce UK Awards.

I’m originally from Finland, went to Uni in Sweden and moved to the UK 30 years ago. I now live in Kingston, not far from Richmond Park, where I love going on my runs, walks or cycle rides. I’m also a mum of three lovely teens and young adults. Darling has filled a real gap in the local publication market since its launch. I joined Karine in 2014 when I took Darling to Kingston and later expanded its distribution to include Richmond, Twickenham and Teddington. My broad experience in marketing and communications, (first at Nokia and later with IBM as a Marketing Strategist and Consultant both in the UK and EMEA) has given me great skills to assist businesses. I enjoy finding out how we can help our advertisers grow their reach and influence. We provide a platform which reaches a great group of readers. Not just women as over 30% of our online visitors are now men. I’m also an active networker and love connecting with people at different networking organizations and the multiple events I attend both in person and online.
