Classic Aesthetics

Of course, you’ll want to start with the classic aesthetics. A venue that looks the part is more likely to feel traditional once you’re inside.

Classic aesthetics are usually along the lines of a place like St Osyth Priory. Details like crown molding and stained glass can have a profound impact on how a venue feels. Chandeliers and ornate bedrooms also play a role, transporting you back in time to years in the past.

Just ensure that the venue aligns with your vision. Make sure that it makes sense for you as a couple.

Check The Capacity

Another thing you’ll want to do is check the capacity. Traditional venues can be stunning, but they can also be small.

Ideally, you should have a guest list that you can read off from the start. This will tell you whether you have room for everyone. Most venues will provide you with a guest limit that you need to stay under.

You want there to be room for all the key events during the ceremony. Things like cake-cutting or the entrance of the bride take up space, so you’ll need to think about this during planning. People shouldn’t be packed in like sardines.

Ask About The In-House Services

Before you go off and speak to a vendor list as long as your arm, it’s well worth asking about in-house services. Sometimes, using these at traditional venues is better.

For example, you’ll want to see if they have tables, chairs and linens you can use. Sometimes, these have the same traditional aesthetic, making them a must-have.

You can also look for on-site catering. Again, many of these locations attract the best chefs in the region, allowing them to create incredible dinners for you and your guests.

You may even have VIP areas at many of these locations. These are great for the family of the bride and groom before the ceremony begins, allowing them to enjoy the atmosphere in style.

Discuss Traditional Customs

Along these lines, you might also want to discuss traditional customs with staff at the venue. They may be able to accommodate things like specific rituals or altar setups.

If the venue is old and has a long history, you could tap into the local customs. These will depend on the venue itself, of course, but they can be quite spectacular and set the tone for the day.

Ask About Outdoor Options

Finally, it’s worth enquiring about outdoor options. Many traditional settings provide you with a combination of both, allowing you to go outside if it is a warm sunny day, or stay indoors if not. Make sure you check out the courtyards and terraces when you visit to see if they are suitable.
