Which might sound a little bizarre to think about, though, right? Well, be it walking the dog at a dog park, going horseback riding, or there are plenty of other examples out there if you really want to be creative here. But yeah, nowadays, being a pet parent is basically a lifestyle at this point. Like, once you have a furry friend running your household, the clothing priorities basically shift.

Well, if you’re dead-set on being active and you want your pet to be active, just be specific here.

But yeah, overall here, it stops being about the cute outfit and starts being about “can this survive drool, mud, and being tugged” And sure, this example is geared towards dogs, some people take their cats out for walks, rabbits even, and if you own farm animals, well, that’s a whole other entire can of worms. Pets do not care about staying clean. And they definitely do not care if someone’s outfit was expensive.

So yeah, a good wardrobe for an active pet parent is kind of essential for just surviving the day without feeling like an absolute mess. But it might help to feel like yourself, too.

Outerwear Needs to be Practical and Cute

Well, it doesn’t necessarily need to be cute, but it helps if it’s cute because it helps you feel more like yourself, right?   But of course, here, as you know, rain doesn’t care about schedules. Well, Mother Nature in general doesn’t, and yeah, it’s not like pets care about rain. That means being ready for every possible forecast, especially during morning or evening outings, because, well, you just never know how the weather will actually be.

So, jackets need to be waterproof. It helps to look into dog walking coats that have plenty of pockets for treats, your keys, leash, poop bags, well, whatever you need, honestly. But it feels so much better wearing outerwear that actually supports the lifestyle instead of working against it. But yeah, you can be practical and still look cute, but it might require some digging (no bad dog pun intended there).

You Need Clothes that Can Keep Up with Real Life

And real life is going to vary for everyone, and maybe each pet, too. But also, there’s this whole thing where fashion still pretends people spend their days strolling around looking flawless. But of course, here,  most pet parents are crawling under sofas to rescue toys, darting outside at weird hours for surprise walks, or trying to avoid fur sticking to everything (which is especially apparent when wearing black). Oh, and don’t forget about the snags from knitted wear, that’s a major one. Anyways, clothing needs to handle actual life, not a perfectly staged magazine moment.

Basically, you need to avoid any delicate fabrics, and that includes nylon stockings, too. You keep having a lint roller for the pet hair; that’s a major one here. And of course, the clothes and shoes need to be sturdy (like strong denim jeans are nearly indestructible to a dog jumping on you, for example).

Shoes Actually Make a Big Difference

As you might have guessed here, shoes are basically the foundation of every single outing. So, if you’re active, if your pet makes you active, well, your shoes are going to be everything, absolutely everything.

Most people use trainers, and sure, you can’t go wrong. Some use rainboots for the wet and muddy days, and sure, that also works. It’s really up to you and what you think is best. But comfort and stability do matter a lot here.
