The Institute of Contemporary Arts hosted a vibrant celebration of Taiwanese creativity in London on Thursday, 18 September, as four designers, APUJAN, INFDARK, JENN LEE, and RAY CHU, presented their work in From Taipei to London: A Sensory Showcase of Taiwanese Creativity.

Commissioned by Taiwan’s Ministry of Culture and curated by Rain Wu, the one-day exhibition transformed the Brandon and Nash Rooms into a multi-sensory journey, blending fashion, food, and scenography to reflect the innovation and cultural depth at the heart of Taiwan’s design scene.

In an inventive collaboration with BAO London, each designer’s collection was paired with an exclusive Taiwanese-inspired dish, extending their creative narratives beyond garments. Bespoke florals and immersive displays further activated the senses, foregrounding sustainability, identity, and emotional resonance.

APUJAN presented three looks from its recent collections, merging traditional knitwear and chiffon gowns with futuristic techniques.

INFDARK reinterpreted Taiwanese motifs for modern life, curating a fusion of East and West.

JENN LEE marked her 10-year journey as a designer, evolving from dark, fragmented beginnings into playful, romantic multi-purpose pieces.

RAY CHU highlighted sustainability with gender-neutral tailoring crafted from eco-conscious materials, including upcycled tea leaves and fish-scale fabrics.

The event drew a mix of cultural and fashion leaders, including Ambassador James T.S. Yao, representatives from the British Fashion Council, and international media. Attendees praised the showcase as “far beyond a traditional showroom,” with many highlighting its originality and the designers’ inventive use of sustainable materials.

Supported by Taiwan’s Ministry of Culture, the initiative is part of an ongoing effort to increase the global visibility of Taiwanese fashion. The program underscores Taiwan’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and cultural exchange, building platforms that connect its designers to international markets.
