ALISADUDAJ Debuts Silent Engravings at London Fashion Week

Albanian-born designer Alisa Dudaj, founder of the label ALISADUDAJ, made her mark at London Fashion Week with the debut of her latest collection, Silent Engravings. The show, rooted in Albanian craft traditions yet distinctly contemporary, was one of the week’s standout moments for its balance of restraint and power.

The inspiration behind Silent Engravings stems from Albania’s artisan culture, intricate wood carvings, embroidery, and handmade objects that preserve memory and identity. These references were reimagined into sharp silhouettes and refined details, offering a minimal yet commanding presence on the runway.

“Craft doesn’t need to speak loudly to be remembered,” Dudaj said. “The marks it leaves are lasting, and in their silence lies strength.”

The collection is also deeply personal for the designer. Dudaj drew on the straw artworks created by her great-grandfather, painstaking compositions crafted from thousands of straw fragments. Their quiet intricacy became a metaphor for the collection’s aesthetic: subtle yet powerful, modest yet enduring.

Craftsmanship was central to the presentation. Built from natural fibers, primarily wool, the collection featured wet felting, embroidery, and hand knitting, traditional methods reinterpreted for a contemporary audience. Collaborations with local artisans gave the pieces a tactile, sculptural quality, reinforcing Dudaj’s commitment to heritage preservation through modern design.

Compared with earlier work, Silent Engravings marked a confident evolution. Silhouettes were stripped back to their essence, but carried layers of meaning in construction and texture.
