Masters from Brazil and Europe Gather for a Unique Cultural Celebration
The rhythms of Brazil will take over Wimbledon this November as Arte Pura Capoeira London hosts its annual festival, Capoeira é Vida (“Capoeira is Life”). Now in its fourth year, the three-day celebration will unite world-renowned masters, teachers and students from Brazil, Portugal and across Europe for a vibrant showcase of music, dance, martial arts and community spirit.

Far more than a martial art, Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian cultural tradition that blends acrobatics, rhythm and ritual. The festival aims to open its doors to families, children and adults, offering Londoners the chance to immerse themselves in this dynamic art form.

Festival Highlights
- Interactive workshops for children, adults and families
- Live performances of Capoeira, Maculelê (Afro-Brazilian stick dance) and Frevo (a high-energy carnival dance from Recife)
- Percussion and song with traditional Brazilian instruments
- The Batizado ceremony, a rite of passage where new students are formally welcomed into the Capoeira community
“This is more than a martial art, it is rhythm, culture, community and self-expression,” says Ingrid Santos, co-founder of Arte Pura Capoeira London. “We want to give children and families in London the chance to live a little piece of Brazil and feel the energy of Capoeira.”
Special Guests
The festival will feature Mestre Toni Vargas, one of the most influential voices in Capoeira worldwide, alongside a line-up of respected mestres and teachers from across Europe. Their presence makes this one of the most significant Capoeira gatherings in the UK calendar.

The Spirit of Capoeira in the UK
Capoeira has seen rapid growth in the UK in recent years, valued not only for its athletic benefit, balance, flexibility, coordination and strength, but also for its mental focus, musicality and sense of community.

Festival participant Fiona Wyse reflects:
“Capoeira has certainly pushed me out of my comfort zone. The last time I attempted a cartwheel was in the primary school playground! It has increased my flexibility and my fitness, but most of all, it has given me a community. André & Ingrid say it is a capoeira family, and I have to agree.”
With its mix of cultural heritage, physicality and inclusivity, Capoeira é Vida promises an unforgettable weekend of movement, rhythm and togetherness in the heart of Wimbledon.
