This autumn, London will host one of the most ambitious cultural events dedicated to the occult, folklore, and the supernatural: Dark Secrets – The Esoteric Exhibition, opening 11 October 2025 at The Vaults, Waterloo.

Spanning 27 themed rooms across 1,200m², the exhibition brings together more than 1,000 original artefacts, many displayed for the first time, ranging from cursed dolls and shrunken heads to Aleister Crowley’s personal objects and rare ritual manuscripts. Combining rigorous historical research with striking scenography, Dark Secrets offers a critical yet immersive exploration of esotericism, magic, secret societies, and paranormal phenomena.

Exhibition Highlights

  • Cabinet of Cursed Dolls: The largest collection ever shown in Europe, including the infamous Weeping Doll.
  • Aleister Crowley’s Artefacts: Ceremonial staff, Thoth Tarot, and rare fragments from the Abbey of Thelema.
  • Malleus Maleficarum (1620 edition): The notorious witch-hunting manual that fuelled centuries of persecution.
  • Dybbuk Box: Said to contain a trapped malevolent spirit, inspiring countless legends and films.
  • Tibetan Kapala: A ritual cup carved from a human skull, symbolising rebirth and transformation.
  • Tsantsa (Shrunken Heads): Rare examples from the Shuar tribes of the Amazon.
  • Jimi Hendrix’s Jacket: A relic linked to the myths of the “27 Club.”
  • Vampire Hunting Kit: A 19th-century set of stakes, pistols, and holy water, presented with archaeological burial remains.
  • Cursed Sports Memorabilia: Objects associated with misfortune, including England’s “cursed” 1966 World Cup jersey.

Dark Secrets goes beyond sensationalism, through careful historical and anthropological framing, the exhibition dismantles fraudulent practices while highlighting the role of esoteric traditions in shaping culture, faith, and society. Visitors will uncover the truths behind mysteries, miracles, and occult symbols, and reflect on the ongoing fascination with the hidden and forbidden.
